Rick Gallipeau

I believe in Jesus Christ.  I made this website to share the story of how and why I became a believer.

I'm a retired police officer, a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and a Boy Scout leader.  I like to fish and am a member of the Newport County Saltwater Fishing Club and the Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association.  I'm also a life member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Newport Rifle Club, the oldest pistol and rifle club in the United States.

Fishing

I'm a saltwater fisherman.  I fish from shore for striped bass and by boat for summer flounder (we call them "fluke" in the northeast) and tautog (blackfish).  I catch a few bluefish along the way, though I don't fish for them.

I use bait, mostly.  We have a squid run in early May.    You can catch them by the 5-gallon bucket if you put in the time.  I use them for striper bait and freeze what I don't need for later in the season.  I eat them, too.  In fact, it's really a shame that I have to go through so many of them as bait, because I prefer eating squid to striper.

When I run out of squid, I use pogie (a local term for menhaden).  Late in the summer and during the fall, I use mackerel, "snapper" blues, and other baitfish that will hit a Sabiki rig (several little dropper hooks with flashy attachments on a leader with a weight or diamond jig on the bottom).  Small squid come back at the end of August, but not in May quantities.  They gradually get bigger until they leave or it gets too cold to fish.

Bed and Breakfast

Our house in Middletown used to be a Victorian farm house and a barn with an apartment on the second floor.  We joined the two buildings on the second floor with an arched connection, and raised the roof of the barn to make a third floor.  We rent the second and third floors of the barn as bed and breakfast units.  We have a great view of Boyd's Windmill, so we call the house Windmill View Cottage.  We've met a lot of great people.  If you're going to be in the area, stay with us.

I believe in Jesus Christ.

The most important aspect of my life is my relationship with Jesus.  I used to be an unbeliever, but someone took the time to expose me to the basic message of the Bible and the evidence for faith in Christ.  I concluded that Jesus really did rise from the dead and that He is God, as He claimed to be.  Then I decided to accept His gift of forgiveness and eternal life.

The basic message of the Bible is found in John 3:16 -- "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life."

John elaborates in another letter:  "And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.  These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life." (1 John 5:11-13)
