Rick Gallipeau

I believe in Jesus Christ.  I made this website to share the story of how and why I became a believer.

I'm a retired police officer.  I like to fish and am a member of the Newport County Saltwater Fishing Club.  I'm also a life member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Newport Rifle Club.

Fishing

I'm a saltwater shore fisherman.  I fish for striped bass, tautog (blackfish), and summer flounder (we call them "fluke" in the northeast).  I catch a few bluefish along the way, though I don't fish for them.

I use bait, mostly.  We have a squid run in early May.  You can catch them by the 5-gallon bucket if you put in the time.  I use them for striper bait and freeze what I don't need for later in the season.  I eat them, too.  In fact, it's really a shame that I have to go through so many of them as bait, because I prefer eating squid to striper.

When I run out of squid, I use pogie (a local term for menhaden).    Late in the summer and during the fall, I use mackerel, "snapper" blues, and other baitfish that will hit a Sabiki rig (several little dropper hooks with flashy attachments on a leader with a weight or diamond jig on the bottom).   Small squid come back at the end of August, but not in May quantities.   They gradually get bigger until they leave or it gets too cold to fish.

I believe in Jesus Christ.

The most important aspect of my life is my relationship with Jesus.  I used to be an unbeliever, but someone took the time to expose me to the basic message of the Bible and the evidence for faith in Christ.   I concluded that Jesus really did rise from the dead and that He is God, as He claimed to be.   Then I decided to accept His gift of forgiveness and eternal life.

The basic message of the Bible is found in John 3:16 -- "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life."

John elaborates in another letter:  "And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.  These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life." (1 John 5:11-13)

Bible Reading Schedule (chronological) (This is the plan I use to read through the Bible in a year, in the order of the events. I've got it formatted so you can print January to June on one side of the paper, July to December on the other, fold it in half, and use it to mark the place of the next reading. You can cross off the readings as you go and read it at your own pace, if you want.)
